This album cover titled Houses of the Holy was photographed by Aubrey Powell and used by Led Zeppelin in 1973. This cover uses colors and images that would be associated with a psychedelic feeling. The name is not present on the cover because the band wants the music to to speak for itself.

Modern Album Cover

Frank Sinatra used this album cover (the artist is unknown) in 1958 titled, "Frank Sinatra sings for only the lonely". This cover uses the a picture of Frank himself being portrayed as a saddened clown to convey the message of this album being for those who are depressed and lonely. The colors are also muted so that they show no sign of vibrancy or happiness.

Paul Rand Logo

This logo was created be Paul Rand in 1966.  Although this logo was not adopted by the ford company it is a successful logo in my opinion. The text gives a sense of motion that would relate to movement of a car.

Saul Bass logo

This logo was created by the great Saul Bass in 1972.  The logo has three functions in relation to it's design and it's symbolic meaning. The rainbow indicates hope, the man symbolizes mankind, and the hand represents the thought of being in "good hands".

Wikipedia has a worldly, sophisticated, educated feel to it's logo. The pieces of the puzzle represent all of the information that Wikipedia can provide while its sphere shape represents connecting the world. The gray color gives the logo a serious representation.

The Nintendo logo is very simplistic, yet the company is well known around the world. The font choice for the logo is a trademark of the company because the first games that came out on Nintendo used this font choice. The red is a attention grabber that many kids can remember.

The stripes on the adidas logo are to symbolize a mountain and the mountain is used to symbolize the overcoming of obstacles. The three stripes are also on the shoe itself and most of the shoe styles are black and white.

Das Undbild is a collage that was created in 1919 by a German painter named Kurt Schwitters. Although Schewitters had a style of expressionism, his style collided with the new Dadaism movement that was approaching. Therefor he was able to have a distinct style of emotion and abstractness that is mostly distinguished in his collages.

Post Millennial

The really interesting thing about this poster is although the movie was made in 2005 ,the style of the poster resembles a 1950-60 style poster such as Saul Bass designs. Using this characteristic lets the viewer know the movie will have a storyline during this era of time. The colors and symbol of the fire strongly suggest drama while the guitar symbolizes the musician. This poster also conveys that this will be a story of one mans life by placing a single man as the central focus.

Postmodern

The colors in this poster strongly suggest a story of hope because the colors range from dark into the light( light at the end of the tunnel). The rain is a symbol of the tragedies of life raining down, but he is able to stand against it and face it. The designer does a nice job of placing one man on the poster instead of several because this can amplify the strength of one man.

Modern

The designer places a scene from the movie onto the poster to suggest fantasy and compassion. Placement of the words have a strong movement along the entire page. The main color yellow is conveying a happiness while the slight red inscribes a hint of spookiness.
